This article explains how you can dynamically create a new drug when prescribing in Pabau.
Need to prescribe a drug that’s not in your system yet? No problem — Pabau now makes it easy to create and prescribe a new drug on the fly, directly from the prescribing screen.
Whether it’s a custom compound or something you haven’t added to your database yet, here’s how you can quickly handle it without interrupting your workflow.
Step 1: Navigate to the Client Card
Start by logging into your Pabau account using your login credentials. Then, navigate to the search bar at the top of the screen. Type in the client's name and select the client to access their client card.
Alternatively, you can navigate to the "Clients" tab located in the sidebar menu to access your client list and click on the client name to access their client card.
Step 2: Create New Prescription
Once you access the client card, navigate to the create button represented as a blue plus sign, located in the bottom right corner of the screen. A list of actions will be revealed. Select the "Prescription" option to get started.

Step 3: Dynamically Create a New Drug
When searching for a drug in the Drugs search bar and it isn’t found, you’ll now see a helpful message: “No Drugs found – click here to add anyway”
If you press Enter after typing a drug that isn’t found, Pabau will automatically open the prescription window so you can go ahead and prescribe it.
Step 4: Edit the Drug Name
Once the prescription window appears the medication name field will now be editable. This means you can modify or correct the drug name before prescribing — great for custom entries or one-off medications.
Step 5: Favorite Drug
On the same pop-up window, when scrolling down, after creating/editing the new, non-preconfigured drug, you’ll see a toggle option appear to create a favorite drug
-
If this is enabled, the drug will be saved to your favorite drug list and added to your clinic’s drug database. This means you won’t have to retype it again — it’ll show up in future searches!
To finalize the process, ensure to click the "Save" button in the bottom right corner of the screen.
Step 6: Save Form
Once you've filled out all the information, ensure to click the "Save Form" button.
After clicking "Save Form," you will see a prompt. Select if you'd like to print the prescription. It will be opened in another tab in PDF format—proceed as you normally would. Otherwise, close it.
You will be able to locate the created prescription by navigating to Chart/EMR and then clicking on the Prescriptions tab in the specific client card where you can review the details of the prescription, make any necessary edits, or print it for your records.
By following these steps, you’ll be able to create a new drug while prescribing without needing to leave the prescribing flow.
This means that if a medication isn’t already in your drug list, you don’t need to interrupt your workflow or ask someone else to add it in the backend.
