How to Apply a Discount in the Point of Sale

In this article, we'll cover how to apply discounts in the POS, either to every item in the cart at once or to individual items.

Step 1: Navigate to the Point of Sale (POS)

Start by logging into your Pabau account using your login credentials. Then, access the point of sale by navigating to the "Create" button at the top of the page. Then, click "Sale." Proceed to perform a sale as you usually would. 

Step 2: Open the discount options

Once you've selected the client and items to sell, click the ... button at the bottom of the cart, next to Clear, and select Edit discount.

A searchable dropdown will appear, listing all discounts the staff member is allowed to apply. Select a discount to apply it to every item in the cart.

    NOTE: The discount only affects items currently in view. Items added afterward will not automatically receive the discount.

    Step 3: Apply a discount to a single item

    To discount one item instead of the whole cart, click the service or product in the cart. Select a discount from the Discount dropdown, then click Save.

    Can I apply two discounts to the same item?

    No. Each item in the cart holds one discount at a time, so discounts don't stack. Choosing a different discount for an item replaces the one it already has, and choosing No Discount removes it.

    The same applies when you mix the two methods above:

    • A discount picked for the whole cart (Step 2) replaces any discount already set on individual items.
    • If the cart-wide discount can't be used on some items (because of its Apply to settings in Setup), Pabau lists them in a warning and those items are left at full price, without any discount they had before.
    • A discount you pick for one item after applying a cart-wide one (Step 3) replaces the cart-wide discount on that item only.

    If you want to give a combined reduction, click the item, choose Custom in the Discount dropdown and enter the total amount or percentage you want to take off, then click Save. A custom discount can't be more than the item's value.

    NOTE: Custom is only available if your role allows you to apply custom discounts. If it's greyed out, ask your administrator.

    Where this comes from: the Discount line in the cart summary is the total of each item's single discount.

    By following these steps, you can successfully apply a discount in the point of sale.
