How to Set Up Custom Labs

In this guide, we'll cover the steps to setting up custom labs in your Pabau account.

In Pabau, you can create profiles for any lab you work with, allowing you to send lab requests to them via email, receive them in a dedicated lab inbox, and then match the requests to your patients. The setup process involves several steps:

  • Create profiles for all your lab partners.
  • Set up services for the lab tests you offer.
  • Create lab codes for the tests.
  • Configure a lab request form.

This guide walks you through each of these steps to help you get everything set up properly.

Step 1: Create a Lab Profile

Begin by navigating to Setup in the left sidebar menu and selecting "Labs" under the Clinical section.

On the Labs page, click "Create Lab" in the top right corner.

Fill in the lab’s basic and address information. Most importantly, ensure you enter the Provider number and Email - the lab requests will be sent to the email address you enter here.

Step 2: Set Up Lab Services

Next, create services for each lab test offered at your practice as you would create any other service. This step is crucial because you'll need to link these services to their respective lab codes.

For more details on setting up services, please follow the steps in this guide.

It’s recommended to set up a dedicated service category for your lab tests, as this category will be linked to your lab request form.

For more details on setting up service categories, please follow the steps in this guide.

If you work with multiple labs, you can either create separate service categories or add different services within a single category. Additionally, you can create different lab request forms for each lab partner if needed.

Step 3: Create Lab Codes

Once the services are set up, it's time to create lab codes for each test you provide. Navigate to Setup and choose "Lab Codes" under Clinical.

On the Lab Codes page, click "Create Code" in the top right corner. In the modal, enter the name of the test, a code, and select the corresponding service it relates to.

Step 4: Configure Your Lab Request Form

With your labs, lab services, and lab codes in place, the final step is to configure your lab request form. You can either use a single form for all labs or create separate forms for different providers.

To create a new lab request form, go to Setup and select "Forms" under Clinical. Click "Create Form" in the top right corner to begin, then proceed with the usual form creation steps, choosing Lab Form as the form type.

The lab request form differs from other forms in that it requires three mandatory components:

  1. Lab tests component: You must add this component and select the appropriate service categories for the tests.

  2. Fasting: Include a component (preferably short answer or single choice) labeled "Fasting".

  3. Requesting Doctor: Add a component (preferably short answer or single choice) named "Requesting Doctor".

The rest of the form can be configured as needed, but these three components must be properly set up.

When finished, click "Save Form" in the top right corner.

Now you’re ready to start sending lab requests to your lab providers. For more detailed instructions on this process, refer to this guide.
