# How to Customise the Services and Categories Online Booking Settings

## Customizing service and category settings ensures a clear and structured booking experience for clients.

**NOTE:** This guide covers the new Online Bookings and Client Portal, which are being rolled out to clinics in phases. If your screens look different, your account may still be on the classic version — message us via the in-app chat and we will help.

The classic **Customize → Services & Categories** tab controlled how your treatments are listed when clients book. In the new Online Bookings, the look of the service step is set in two sections of Pabau Studio — **Categories** and **Services list** — while the wording, photo and online availability of each treatment are still set on the service itself.

In this article, you will learn where each classic setting lives now, how to design the service step, and how to get each service ready for online booking.

**Where the Services and Categories Settings Live Now**

| Classic setting | In the new version |
| --- | --- |
| Display category photos | **Categories** section → a style with an image: **Pills + image**, **Tiles + image** or **Featured**. The photo comes from the category in Setup. |
| Display service groups | **Categories** section → **Layers** → **Groups** (service groups + categories) or **Services**. |
| Show service prices | **Services list** → **Hide price** (off shows prices). |
| Show service duration | **Services list** → **Hide duration** (off shows durations). |
| Show description & reviews | **Services list** → **Hide description** and **Show reviews**. The **Description** tab sets how the service details window looks. |
| Enable quick service | No longer needed. Clients tap one or more services, see them in the summary and click **Continue** when they are ready. |

#### **Step 1: Choose How Categories Appear**

Go to **More → Online Bookings** (or **Setup → Online presence → Online Bookings**), click **Customise page**, open the **Services** page and click **Edit**.

1. Hover over the category bar and click the **Category rail** label.
2. Under **Layers**, choose **Categories** (categories only), **Groups** or **Services** to also use your service groups.
3. Under **Style**, choose **Pills**, **Pills + image**, **Tiles**, **Tiles + image** or **Featured** (large photo cards — services stay hidden until a client picks one).

**TIP:** Image styles use the photo saved on each category. To add one, see [How to Edit a Service Category](https://support.pabau.com/en/pabau2/en/pabau2/how-to-edit-a-service-category?hsLang=en).

**How Do I Show Service Groups First?**

You can make clients pick a service group before they see your categories and services. The setting depends on which booking page you use.

**New booking page (Pabau Studio)**

1. Go to **More → Online Bookings** and choose **Customise page**.
2. Open the **Services** page, hover over the category bar and click the **Category rail** label.
3. Under **Layers**, choose **Groups**. Your service groups now show as a row above your categories.
4. Click **Publish**.

**NOTE:** **Groups** and **Services** under **Layers** do the same thing — both add the service group row. Choose **Categories** to hide groups again.

**Classic booking page**

1. Open your Online Bookings settings and go to the **Service & Categories** tab.
2. Under **Categories**, switch on **Show service groups**.
3. Save your changes.

With this on, clients choose a service group first; with it off, they choose straight from your service categories.

#### **Step 2: Choose What Each Service Shows**

1. Hover over the list of services and click the **Services** label.
2. On the **Tiles** tab, pick a **Layout**: **List**, **Cards**, **With image** or **Minimal**.
3. Under **Display**, switch on or off: **Hide price**, **Hide duration**, **Hide description**, **Show reviews**, **Show insurance labels** and **In Person / Virtual filter**.
4. Under **Add button**, choose how the add button looks.

Two more tabs sit at the top of the same section:

- **Description** — the layout of the service details window, the link or button that opens it, and **Force details before booking**, which makes clients read the details before they can add the service.
- **Promotions** — **Show timer for flash sales** adds a countdown next to services with a limited-time discount.

Click **Publish** to make your changes live.

#### **Step 3: Get Each Service Ready for Online Booking**

Go to **Setup → Services** and open the service.

1. Click the **Online Booking** tab.
2. Switch on **Enable this service online**. You can also give it a client-friendly **Friendly name**.
3. Write a **Description**, or click **Generate** to have one written for you.
4. Under **Extended description**, add headings, text and expanders. They appear on the service’s own page on your booking site.

Further down the same tab you can add **Highlights** and, with **Add Service Notice**, a notice that shows with the service on your booking page. Click **Save** when you are done.

**NOTE:** A service only appears online if its category is enabled too. **Tips for a Clear Service List**

- Add a good-quality photo on the service’s **General** tab — it is used by the **With image** layout.
