[Custom Reports](https://support.pabau.com/en/pabau2/analytics?hsLang=en#custom-reports) # How to Use Chart Settings ## In this article, we will show you how to customize the appearance of your charts and Number Widgets in Reports to make your data clearer and more visually impactful. Chart settings let you control how a report's chart looks: where the legend sits, which colours it uses, whether values are printed on the chart, how numbers are shown, and the range of the value axis. The settings are saved with the report, so the chart looks the same everywhere it appears. **NOTE:** Chart settings are part of the report editor, so you need to be able to edit the report. They're available for pie, donut, bar, line and number charts, but not for tables. **Step 1: Open the Report in the Editor** In the left sidebar, hover over **Analytics** and click **Reports**. Then either click **Build a custom report** to start a new one, or open one of your reports under **My reports**, click the three dots and choose **Customize**. The report opens in the report editor. **Step 2: Choose a Chart and Open Chart Settings** 1. Under **Visualisation**, pick the chart type: pie, donut, bar, line or number (**123**). 2. Every change shows on the preview straight away. The options you see depend on the chart type. **Step 3: Set the Legend and Colours** Under **Appearance**: 1. **Legend position** – **Auto**, **Top**, **Bottom**, **Left**, **Right**, or **Hidden** to remove the legend. 2. **Colour palette** – **Default**, **Ocean**, **Warm** or **Colour vision friendly**. The swatches under the box show the palette's colours. 3. **Series colours** – pick a colour for each slice, bar or line from the palette, or click the multicoloured swatch to choose a custom colour. **Reset colours** goes back to the palette's colours. ![The Appearance section of Chart settings with Legend position, Colour palette and Series colours marked, next to the chart preview](https://support.pabau.com/hubfs/Pabau%202%20Knowledge%20Base/kb/gap-2026-10/308106726594-02-appearance.png) *Legend, palette and per-series colours* **TIP:** **Colour vision friendly** uses colours that are easier to tell apart for people with colour blindness. It's a good choice for charts you share widely. **Step 4: Show Data Labels and Format Numbers** Under **Data labels**: 1. Turn on **Show data labels** to print each value on the chart. 2. On pie and donut charts, choose the **Label format**: **Value**, **Percentage**, or **Value and percentage**. 3. Set the **Label colour** and the **Font size** (8 to 32). 4. Choose the **Decimal places** (**Auto**, 0, 1 or 2), and turn on **Abbreviate large numbers** to show, for example, 12.5K instead of 12,500. ![The Data labels section with Show data labels, Label format, label colour and size, and number options marked](https://support.pabau.com/hubfs/Pabau%202%20Knowledge%20Base/kb/gap-2026-10/308106726594-03-data-labels.png) *Data labels and number formatting* A few extra switches appear for particular charts: **Show data points** on a line chart, **Show total in centre** on a donut chart, and **Show column totals** on a bar chart. A number chart has a **Number** section instead, where you set the colour, size (16 to 96), decimal places and abbreviation of the big number. **Step 5: Set the Value Axis (Bar and Line Charts)** 1. On a bar chart, turn on **Show column totals** to show each column's total. 2. Under **Value axis**, add an **Axis title** and, if you want a fixed range, a **Minimum** and **Maximum**. Leave the bounds empty for automatic scaling; values outside the range still show when you hover over the chart. 3. If a font size or axis bound isn't valid, the panel tells you what to check. **Step 6: Save the Report** Click **Close** to hide the panel, then click **Save Report** at the top right. As the panel says: "Preview changes here, then save the report to apply them wherever it appears." If you leave without saving, your chart settings are lost. **NOTE:** In some accounts, Chart settings and the bar and line charts are part of the Insights Plus add-on.
