[General](https://support.pabau.com/en/pabau2/clients?hsLang=en#general) # How to Use Advanced Search to Find Clients and Leads When a name alone isn't enough to find the right person, use Advanced search. You can combine several details at once (for example a surname and a date of birth, or a postcode and an invoice number) and search on your clinic's own Important custom fields too. **Step 1: Open Advanced Search** 1. Click the search bar at the top of the screen (**Ask Pabau anything…**), or press Ctrl + K (⌘ + K on a Mac). 2. Choose the **Clients** or **Leads** tab, then fill in any details you know: **First name**, **Last name**, **Email**, **Date of birth** (type DD/MM/YYYY or pick it from the calendar), **Phone**, **Mobile**, **Post code**, **City**, **Client ID** and, for clients, **Invoice number**. You don't need to fill in every box. 2. Your Important custom fields appear below the standard ones. Fields with set answers (dropdown, single choice, multiple choice and yes/no) show a list that starts with **Any**; pick the answer you want. Date fields open a calendar. Text and number fields are boxes you type in. 3. On the **Clients** tab, tick **Show inactive clients** to include clients who have been made inactive. Without it, only active clients are found. 4. Names, email, phone, mobile, post code, city and text fields match part of what's stored, so "Smi" finds "Smith". **Client ID**, **Lead ID**, **Invoice number**, **Date of birth** and dropdown answers must match exactly. **Invoice number** finds the client the invoice belongs to. **TIP:** **Clear all** empties the form, **Cancel** closes it, and **Back to basic search** takes you back to the normal search panel. **Step 3: Search for a Lead** 1. Click the **Leads** tab. 2. The form is the same, except **Client ID** becomes **Lead ID**. If you fill in a field on one tab and then search from the other, Pabau ignores the field that doesn't belong to that tab. **Step 4: Open a Result** The results page shows everyone who matches, with their email and phone number. To mark one: - In **Setup**, open **Fields**, click the three dots next to the field, choose **Edit** and switch on **Important** under **Field Properties**.
