[Custom Labs](https://support.pabau.com/en/pabau2/clinical?hsLang=en#custom-labs) # How to Set Your Clinic's Own Biomarker Ranges Every lab prints its own reference range on its results, and those ranges don’t always match how your clinic wants to judge a result. **Biomarkers** in Setup lets you set your clinic’s own bands for a biomarker, from **Alarm Low** through **Optimal** to **Alarm High**. Pabau then uses your bands on the advanced lab report and in the results comparison, so every result is judged the same way whichever lab it came from. **NOTE:** Biomarkers appears in Setup for clinics that use Labs. You need the **Can access the Setup page** permission to change the ranges. All staff see the results of your changes. **Step 1: Open Biomarkers** 1. Click **Setup** in the sidebar and go to the **Clinical** section. 2. Choose a list: **Seen on results** shows the biomarkers that appear on lab results, **Customised** shows the ones you have already set ranges for, and **All biomarkers** shows the full list. 2. Type in **Search by biomarker or body system** to narrow the list, for example *haemoglobin* or *liver*. 3. Under **Lab ranges**, Pabau shows the range each lab has printed on results across Pabau, with how many results it is based on. 1. Click **Start from this** beside the lab whose range you want to build on. Pabau fills in a full set of bands from that range, which you can then adjust. 2. Choose who the bands apply to: **Everyone**, or separate bands for **Female** and **Male** patients. Patients without a recorded sex are compared with the Everyone bands. **Step 4: Set Your Ranges** 1. Check the boundaries under the coloured bands: **Alarm low below**, **Low below**, **Optimal from**, **Optimal to**, **High above** and **Alarm high above**. Each boundary must be higher than the one to its left. Leave a boundary blank to switch that band off. 2. Set the **Unit**. Only results reported in this unit use your ranges, so a result in a different unit keeps the lab’s range. 3. To check your bands, type a value in **Try a result**. Pabau tells you which band it falls in, for example **Falls in Optimal**. 4. To go back to the labs’ own ranges, open it again, choose **Everyone**, **Female** or **Male**, and click **Reset to lab ranges**. This removes your bands for that choice only. **NOTE:** If you leave both **Low below** and **High above** blank, each lab’s own Low and High limits still apply. **Where Your Ranges Are Used** - **The advanced lab report** (**Results & Insights** when you print a result) uses your bands for its range bars and summaries. - **The results comparison** on the client’s Lab Tests tab uses your bands, and marks the biomarker **Clinic range**. The lab’s own report, the result values on the client card and the standard print always show what the lab sent.
