[Custom Labs](https://support.pabau.com/en/pabau2/clinical?hsLang=en#custom-labs) # How to Set Up Custom Labs ## In this guide, we'll cover the steps to setting up custom labs in your Pabau account. In Pabau, you can create profiles for any lab you work with, send them lab orders, receive their replies in a dedicated Lab Inbox, and match the results to your patients. The setup process involves these steps: - Create profiles for all your lab partners. - Set up services for the lab tests you offer. - Create lab codes for the tests. - Review your lab request form (optional). When you submit an order, Pabau sends the lab a short notification email asking them to reply with the results. The request form itself isn’t attached to this email. The **Lab name** and **Contact email** are required, and the order notification is sent to the email address you enter here. Lab tests are linked to services through lab codes, which you’ll create in the next step. You can also add a test directly from the order screen when you’re creating a lab request. Pabau saves it as a service in an automatically created **“\[Lab name\] Tests”** category. #### Step 3: Create Lab Codes Once your services are set up, create a lab code for each test. In the modal, fill in: - **Test Name:** The name of the test (for example, Free T4). - **Lab Code:** The code the lab uses for this test. - **Lab:** The lab this code applies to. It defaults to **All labs**, so choose a specific lab if the code is only used by one. - **Service:** The service this test is linked to. ![Screenshot - 2026-10-22T123103.975](https://support.pabau.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Clinical%20Category/Screenshot%20-%202026-10-22T123103.975.png?width=369&height=411&name=Screenshot%20-%202026-10-22T123103.975.png) #### Step 4: Review Your Lab Request Form (Optional) Every custom lab uses a lab request form. If your lab doesn’t have one, Pabau creates a **Lab Request Form** for you automatically, so building one by hand is optional. You only need to follow this step if you want to customize the form or use different forms for different labs. To create a new lab request form, go to **Setup** and select **Forms** under ''Clinical''. Click **Create Form** in the top right corner, then follow the [usual form creation steps](https://support.pabau.com/en/pabau2/how-to-create-a-medical-form?hsLang=en), choosing **Lab Form** as the form type. ![Screenshot - 2026-10-22T123236.664](https://support.pabau.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Clinical%20Category/Screenshot%20-%202026-10-22T123236.664.png?width=620&height=389&name=Screenshot%20-%202026-10-22T123236.664.png) When you choose the Lab Form type, Pabau pre-fills the form with these components: - **Requesting Doctor** - **Request date** - **Lab tests** - **Fasting** (Yes/No) - **Clinical notes** You can edit or add to these as needed. When finished, click **Save Form** in the top right corner. #### Step 5: Receive and Match Results When a lab replies with results, the reply arrives in your **Lab Inbox**. Pabau only matches a reply to a request automatically if the email subject contains the request ID. In most cases you’ll match the reply to the right request manually. For step-by-step instructions on ordering labs and matching results, see [this guide](https://support.pabau.com/en/pabau2/how-to-submit-a-lab-request?hsLang=en). #### **The lab says it sent the results, but they're not in my Lab Inbox - why?** Results only reach your **Lab Inbox** if the lab emails them to your clinic's lab inbox address. The order notification is sent from this address and has it as the reply-to, so the lab just needs to **reply** to that email. You can also see the address on the **Automate Results** banner on **Setup** → **Labs** and on the Lab Inbox page - it ends in **+bloods@automation.pabau.com**. - If the lab sent the results to a staff member's own email address, or started a new email to your usual clinic address, they won't appear in the Lab Inbox. Ask the lab to resend them to your lab inbox address. - Results arrive as attachments on the reply. Once a reply is in the Lab Inbox, match it to the right request if Pabau hasn't matched it automatically.
