[Insurance Billing (US)](https://support.pabau.com/en/pabau2/insurance-billing?hsLang=en#insurance-billing-us) # How to set the place of service for home visits, mobile and telehealth claims Every line of a US professional claim carries a two-digit place of service code (CMS-1500 box 24B) that tells the payer where the service happened. Payers price many services differently in an office, at the client’s home or over video, so the wrong code is a common reason for a denial or a reduced payment. In this article, you will learn how to set a default place of service for your practice, give individual services their own code, and check it on the claim. **NOTE:** Insurance billing is currently available for practices in the United States. Claims are submitted electronically through the Claim.MD clearinghouse. **Which Code Should I Use?** These are the codes most practices need. The full CMS list is available in every place of service dropdown in Pabau. | Code | Shown in Pabau as | Use it when | | --- | --- | --- | | 11 | **Office (11)** | The client comes to your clinic or studio. | | 12 | **Patient home (12)** | You treat clients where they live, for example home visits or a mobile massage practice. | | 10 | **Telehealth - patient home (10)** | A video or phone visit while the client is at home. | | 02 | **Telehealth - other (02)** | A video or phone visit while the client is somewhere other than their home. | | 15 | **Mobile unit (15)** | You treat clients in a vehicle fitted out to provide care, such as a mobile clinic van. | Pabau picks the code for each claim line in this order: 1. The place of service set on the service’s billing code (Step 2). 2. Otherwise, your practice default (Step 1). You can always change it on the claim line before you send (Step 3). **Step 1: Set Your Practice Default** Choose the setting where most of your visits happen. A mobile practice usually bills **Patient home (12)**, and a clinic or studio bills **Office (11)**. Go to **Setup → Claims**, open **Claim.MD** and select the **Billing profile** tab. Scroll to the bottom, then: 1. Choose the code in **Default place of service (box 24B)**. 2. Only change the place of service here, and check the other details are still correct before you click **Save**. **Step 2: Give a Service Its Own Place of Service** Use this for services that happen somewhere other than your default, such as an in-home massage in a studio practice, or a telehealth follow-up. Go to **Setup → Services**, open the service and select the **Pricing** tab. Under **Billing Codes**, beside the service’s code: 1. Choose the code in **Place of service**. If you change the service’s code, set the place of service again. To add a code, see [How to bill timed codes in units](https://support.pabau.com/en/pabau2/how-to-bill-timed-codes-in-units?hsLang=en). **TIP:** If you offer the same treatment in more than one setting, create a separate service for each one (for example, “Massage, 60 min, home visit” and “Massage, 60 min, studio”). Each service then brings the right place of service onto the claim. **Step 3: Check the Place of Service on the Claim** Open the claim from **More → Claims** and expand each charge line. Then: 1. Check **Place of service** (box 24B). For a home visit there is no facility to name, so Pabau leaves box 32 empty on claims where every line is **Patient home (12)**. **TIP:** Some payers also want a telehealth modifier on telehealth lines.
