[Memberships](https://support.pabau.com/en/pabau2/memberships?hsLang=en) # How to Set a Membership Renewal Period ## In this article, we'll cover how to set how often a membership perk renews, independently of the membership's billing cycle. Each perk on a membership has its own renewal period, separate from the membership's billing schedule. This means a membership can be billed yearly, while an individual perk - such as a service or credits - refreshes monthly. This lets you offer a flexible structure, such as a yearly membership that grants a set number of treatments every month throughout the year. **NOTE:** The membership feature will be usable only when the [Stripe integration is active](https://support.pabau.com/en/pabau2/how-to-integrate-with-stripe?hsLang=en). #### Step 1: Navigate to Setup Start by **[logging in to your Pabau account](http://app.pabau.com/)** using your login credentials. If you select **Unlimited**, members can redeem the perk as often as they like, and there is no renewal period to configure since there is no usage cap to replenish. By default, this is set to **Entire Membership (No renewal)**, meaning the usage limit applies once for the lifetime of the membership and does not refresh. Click **Save** to apply your changes. #### **Set a Fixed Plan to Renew Automatically** In the **Payments** step, under **Payment plan**, choose **Fixed** and set how many payments make up one term in **Stop after**. Then switch on **Renew automatically at the end of each term**. Instead of ending after the last payment, the membership starts a new term at the same price and keeps billing. You can also enter a **Cancellation notice (days)**. Clients must cancel at least this many days before the renewal date, and later requests end the following term. Leave it empty (**No notice**) to allow cancelling up to the renewal day. Current members keep the terms they joined on. If **Prevent early cancellation** is also on, it applies to every term: clients can’t pause the membership from the Client Portal and can only leave at the end of a term. When the payment that opens a new term is paid, the client’s membership event log shows **Renewed automatically** with the term number. On the client card, the membership shows its current term, the renewal date and the **Last day to cancel**. #### **How Clients Cancel at the End of a Term** Clients on a plan that renews automatically can stop it renewing themselves. In the Client Portal, they open **Memberships**, choose **Cancel at end of term** and then **Confirm cancellation**. The membership stops renewing and ends at the end of the current term. Their payments carry on until then, member benefits stop as soon as they cancel, and nothing extra is charged. If the plan’s cancellation notice has already passed, it is too late to stop the next renewal: the membership renews once more and ends at the end of the following term. **NOTE:** If your team cancels the membership from the client card during a term, it ends early and nothing extra is charged. #### **Membership Renewal Reminder** Before each renewal, Pabau sends clients on a plan that renews automatically a **Membership renewal reminder**, once per term. It gives the renewal date, the price and how to cancel, and links to the Client Portal, where the client can choose **Cancel at end of term**. By default it is sent 30 days before the client’s last day to cancel. That is the day before the renewal, or earlier when the plan has a cancellation notice. Reminders go out between 10:00 and 18:00 in your clinic’s time zone. Use the **Email** and **SMS** switches under **Send via** to choose how it goes out, or switch both off to stop sending it, then click **Save changes**.
