[New Client Card](https://support.pabau.com/en/pabau2/new-client-card?hsLang=en) # How to Save, Replace or Delete a Client's Card on File (New Client Card) Saving a client's card on file lets your clinic charge future invoices and membership payments without asking for the card each time. In the New Client Card you add, replace and delete a client's saved cards from the card badge on their photo. **NOTE:** Saving cards needs card payments through Stripe connected to your Pabau account. If they aren't, the card window shows **Card payments are not available right now**. See [How to Integrate with Stripe](https://support.pabau.com/en/pabau2/how-to-integrate-with-stripe?hsLang=en). **Step 1: Open the Client’s Cards on File** Open the client's card. The small card badge on the client's photo shows whether a card is saved: a green tick means at least one card is on file (hover it to see **Card on file**), and a blue plus means there isn't one yet (**Add card details**). 1. Click the card badge. It shows the same list and buttons. **Step 2: Add a Card** 1. In **Add a payment card**, enter the **Cardholder name**, **Card number**, **Expiry** and **CVC**. The card preview at the top fills in as you type. 2. Leave **Set as default card** ticked to make this the client's default card, the one charged automatically. Untick it to keep their current default. 3. Click **Save card**. After saving, Pabau only ever shows the card brand, the last four digits and the expiry date (**Ending on**). Cards past their expiry date are tagged **Expired**, and the client's default card is tagged **Default**. **NOTE:** If your clinic takes payments into more than one wallet, choose the **Wallet** first. The cards already saved on that wallet are listed under it, so you can check before adding the same card twice. **Step 3: Replace or Delete a Card** Each saved card has two buttons on the right: 1. **Replace card** (the pencil): use it when a card has expired, been lost or been replaced by the bank. 2. **Delete card** (the bin): removes the card from the client's file. ![A saved card in Cards on file with the Replace card and Delete card buttons marked](https://support.pabau.com/hubfs/Pabau%202%20Knowledge%20Base/kb/gap-2026-10/490672848085-04-cards-list.png) *Replace card and Delete card on a saved card* **NOTE:** Both buttons are only shown to staff with the **Can delete card** permission. Replacing a card removes the old one, so it needs the same permission. **To replace a card:** a saved card's number and CVC can never be shown or edited, so you key in the new card in full. Click the pencil, enter the new card's details in the **Replace card** window and click **Save card**. If it does, **Card in use by a membership** opens and lists the memberships. Move them to another card first: - Click **Choose card**, pick another saved card in **Choose a card for the membership payments**, then click **Move memberships & delete**. This option only appears when the client has another card that hasn't expired on the same wallet. - Or click **Add new card on file** and save a new card. The memberships move to it and the old card is then deleted. If the old card was the client's default, the card you move the memberships to becomes their default too. Replacing a card that pays for a membership moves the memberships to the new card in the same way. **Step 5: When a Card Can’t Be Deleted** Sometimes Pabau stops a card being deleted and shows **This card can't be deleted**: - **The client has upcoming appointments covered by a cancellation policy with payment protection.** The no-show or late-cancellation charge would have no card to bill. Reschedule or cancel those appointments first, or replace the card instead. - **Pabau couldn't check whether the card pays for a membership.** This is usually a short-lived problem reaching Stripe.
