# How to Create a Letter From a Treatment Note (New Client Card)

After a treatment you often need to write to the client or another clinician about it. Instead of retyping the note, you can start a letter straight from a completed treatment note. Pick the forms you want to include, and Pabau opens the letter editor with their content filled in, or with a letter drafted for you by AI Scribe.

**Step 1: Open the Treatment Note's Menu**

1. Open the client card and click **EMR** (labelled **Chart** for US businesses), then choose **Treatment notes**.
2. Hover over a completed note and click the three dots (**More actions**).
3. Click **Create letter**.

**NOTE:** **Create letter** is greyed out on drafts and on notes made from an uploaded document. Its tooltip reads **Create a letter from a completed digital treatment note.**

**Step 2: Choose the Forms to Include**

The **Create letter** window lists the client's completed forms, newest first, with the date and who completed each one. This includes treatment notes, consent forms, questionnaires and prescriptions. The note you started from is already ticked.

1. Type in **Search loaded forms** to find a form by name.
2. Tick any other forms you want in the letter. The counter below the list shows how many are selected. If the client has a long history, click **Load more forms** at the bottom of the list to see older ones.

**Step 3: Choose How the Letter Is Written**

1. Leave **Use AI Scribe to write the letter** switched off to copy the content of the selected forms into the letter editor as it is. Switch it on to have AI Scribe draft a letter to the client from the selected forms instead.
2. Click **Create letter**.

**IMPORTANT:** AI Scribe works only from the forms you selected, but always read its draft before you save or send it. Each AI-drafted letter uses 5 Pabau credits, or none if your clinic has Care Plus. Without Care Plus and with no credits left, the window shows **Please top-up your credits to use Pabau AI** and **Create letter** stays greyed out until you switch AI Scribe off.

**Step 4: Review and Finish the Letter**

The letter editor opens full screen, addressed to the client.

1. The subject is filled in as **Letter for \<client name\>**. If the note you started from is linked to an appointment, the letter is linked to the same appointment.
2. Edit the text as needed, then click **Send & complete**, or use the arrow next to it to choose a different letter status.

**NOTE:** Nothing is saved until you finish the letter in the editor. If you close the editor first, no letter is added to the client's record.
