# How to Clone a Treatment Note (New Client Card)

Many clients come back for the same treatment, and most of the note stays the same from one visit to the next. Cloning an earlier treatment note copies the answers you choose into a new draft dated today, so you only change what's different this time.

**NOTE:** Only notes created from a treatment note template can be cloned, and you need permission to edit treatment notes. If either isn't the case, the clone option is greyed out and its tooltip tells you why.

**Step 1: Open the Client's Treatment Notes**

1. Open the client card and click **EMR** (labelled **Chart** for US businesses), then choose **Treatment notes**.
2. To find the note faster, click a form name in the row of buttons above the list. Only notes from that form are shown, and the number on each button is how many completed notes the client has from it. Click **All forms** to see everything again.

**Step 2: Choose Clone This Note**

1. Hover over the note you want to reuse. A small toolbar appears on the right of the row.
2. Click the clone icon, or click the three dots (**More actions**) and choose **Clone this note**.

**Step 3: Choose Which Answers to Copy**

The **Clone this note** window lists every field on the note.

1. Fields that have a saved answer are ticked for you. Untick anything that will be different this time. Fields marked **No saved answer** were left blank on the original and can't be selected.
2. Use **Select all** to tick or untick every field at once. The counter on the right shows how many fields are selected.
3. Click **Clone**.

**TIP:** Signature fields are never ticked for you, so last visit's signature isn't copied by accident. Tick one only if you really mean to reuse it.

**Step 4: Review and Save the New Note**

Pabau creates a new draft dated today, confirms it with **Created a draft of "\<form name\>"**, and opens it straight away. The answers you picked are already filled in, including any chart or photos on those fields.

1. Check the note's header. The client and form name are shown at the top, and the draft keeps the original note's privacy setting. If the original note's appointment is today, the draft is linked to it; otherwise Pabau links today's appointment when the client has only one. You can change the appointment and treatment date from the header.
2. Update anything that has changed, then click **Save Form**. To finish it later, click **Save as draft** instead.

**NOTE:** Cloning never changes the original note. Until you save it, the clone stays in the Treatment notes list with a **DRAFT** badge.
