[New Client Card](https://support.pabau.com/en/pabau2/new-client-card?hsLang=en) # How to Cancel a Lab Request or Lab Order Ordered the wrong test, or the client no longer needs it? You can cancel a lab request from the client's card until its result comes back. If Pabau sent the order to a connected lab (Quest Diagnostics, Randox or VHL), Pabau cancels it at the lab first and then in Pabau, so the lab doesn't process a test nobody wants. **NOTE:** Cancel is only offered until a result has been received. Once a result is on the request, the menu offers **Delete** instead (for staff with permission to delete lab requests). **Step 1: Find the Lab Request** 1. Open the client's card and select **EMR** in the navigation (labelled **Chart** on US accounts), then open **Lab Tests**. 2. Find the request you want to cancel. The tabs across the top (**All**, **Backlog**, **Requested** and so on) help you narrow a long list. **Step 2: Choose Cancel** 1. Click the three-dot menu on the right of the request. 2. Pabau shows the right window for you. **Step 3: Cancel a Request That Wasn't Placed With a Connected Lab** For a request that is still in Pabau only, was sent to a lab by email, fax or on paper, or went to any lab other than Quest, Randox or VHL, the **Cancel Lab Request** window opens: *"This lab request will be marked as cancelled and can no longer be sent to the lab."* 1. If the request already went to a lab, contact the lab yourself as well. **Step 4: Cancel a Quest Diagnostics Order** If you placed the order with Quest from Pabau, the **Cancel this Quest order?** window opens. It explains that Pabau cancels the requisition at Quest, then marks the lab request cancelled in Pabau. 1. Open **Reason for cancelling** and pick one of the reasons Quest offers (for example **Duplicate Order**, **Ordered by Mistake** or **Testing Not Needed**). The list comes from Quest, so the first time it can take up to half a minute to load. 2. Click **Cancel at Quest**. You can still click **Cancel in Pabau only**, but the requisition stays open at Quest until it is cancelled there. If Pabau couldn't get an answer from Quest at all, you'll see *"Quest didn't confirm the cancel. Check the order in Quest."* Check the order in Quest before you try again. **Step 5: Cancel a Randox Order** For an order placed with Randox from Pabau, the **Cancel the Randox order?** window explains that the order is cancelled in Randox first, then in Pabau. 1. Choose a **Reason** from Randox's own list. If the list doesn't load, click **Try again**. 2. Click **Cancel order**. If Randox can't cancel it (usually because the lab already has the sample), Pabau tells you why and offers **Cancel in Pabau only**. The order then stays open at Randox, so contact Randox if it needs cancelling there too. **Step 6: Cancel a VHL Booking** For a booking made with VHL from Pabau, the **Cancel the VHL booking?** window explains that Pabau asks VHL to cancel the booking, then cancels it in Pabau. VHL's team confirms the cancellation. 1. Type a short note in **Reason for VHL** explaining why the booking is being cancelled. 2. Click **Cancel booking**. Pabau confirms with *"Cancellation requested. VHL shows the booking as pending cancellation."* If VHL can't take the request from Pabau, you'll be offered **Cancel in Pabau only**. The booking then stays open at VHL, so contact VHL if it needs cancelling there too. **What Happens After You Cancel** - The request is marked **Cancelled** and drops off the client's **Lab Tests** list and its counts. It can no longer be sent to the lab. - To look back at cancelled requests, go to **Clients → Labs**, open **Options** and choose **Lab queue**. Cancelled requests are listed there with the status **Cancelled**. - On the **Labs** board you can also drag a request’s card onto **Drop here to cancel**. This only marks it cancelled in Pabau: it doesn’t cancel the order at the lab, so for Quest, Randox or VHL orders use the client card instead. **TIP:** Just placed the order and **Cancel** is greyed out? Hover over it. If it says *"This order is still being sent to Quest"* (or Randox, or VHL), Pabau is still filing the order with the lab.
