# How to Ask a Client to Upload Their Lab Results

**NOTE:** This guide covers the new Online Bookings and Client Portal, which are being rolled out to clinics in phases. If your screens look different, your account may still be on the classic version — message us via the in-app chat and we will help.

When a new client has had blood tests elsewhere, the quickest way to get the results on file is to ask the client to upload them. **Request upload** on the client’s Lab Tests tab emails them a secure link that signs them in to your client portal and opens the upload window straight away. What they upload lands on their client card, ready for your team to review before the appointment.

**Before You Start**

The client uploads through the **Lab Results** page of your client portal, so two portal settings must be on. Go to **Setup ▸ Online presence ▸ Client Portal**, open the **Lab results** card, switch **Status** on and switch on **Allow clients to import their own lab results**. **Step 1: Open the Client’s Lab Tests**

1. Open the client’s client card.
2. Open the **EMR** menu (called **Chart** for clinics in the United States) and click **Lab Tests**.

**Step 2: Click Request Upload**

1. Click **Request upload**, above the client’s lab requests on the right.

**Step 3: Send the Request**

The **Request lab results** window opens.

1. Check the email address. The link always goes to the email address on the client’s record, so if it’s wrong, cancel and update the client’s details first.
2. Click **Send request**.

A message confirms **Upload request sent to** the client’s address. The client receives an email titled **Please upload your lab results**.

**Step 4: What Happens Next**

When the client clicks the link in the email, they are signed in to your client portal, on their **Lab Results** page, with the **Import lab results** window already open. They choose the lab (or leave it to detect it), pick the PDF report from their lab, check the values Pabau reads from it, and import it.

The imported report appears on the client’s **Lab Tests** tab with the status **Received**, so your team knows it hasn’t been reviewed yet.

**NOTE:** Clients can upload original PDF reports from their lab. Scans, photos and screenshots can’t be read. Each file can be up to 20 MB.

**If the Button Is Greyed Out**

Pabau checks that the link will work before it lets you send it. If **Request upload** is greyed out, hover over it to see why:

- **Add an email address for this client to request an upload.** Add the client’s email address to their record.
- **Turn on Lab Results in Setup → Client Portal to request uploads.** Switch on the Lab results page, as described in Before You Start.
- **Turn on patient lab uploads in Setup → Client Portal → Lab Results to request uploads.** Switch on **Allow clients to import their own lab results**.
- **This client can’t sign in to the patient portal (archived, blocked or portal access suspended).** The client’s record or portal access needs to be active again first.
- **Upload requests need the new patient portal.** Your clinic is still on the classic portal. Message us via the in-app chat.
