# Getting Started with Team Chat in Engage

## In this article, you will learn how to use Team Chat in Engage to send internal messages, collaborate with staff members, share updates, and manage clinic communication securely in one place.

Engage includes a built-in team chat, so the front desk, practitioners and managers can coordinate without leaving the inbox — and without WhatsApp groups on personal phones. Everything in Chat is internal: clients never see it. This article shows you around.

**Opening Chat**

Click the **Chat** bubble in the icon rail on the far left of Engage. Chat opens over the inbox; press **Esc** or click the **X** to return.

**Channels**

Channels group conversation by topic — for example **#general**, **#front-desk** and **#social-media**. Click **Add channels** in the sidebar to create more. Each channel has a **topic** line next to its name (like "Walk-ins, rotas and the front of house") so everyone knows what belongs there, and shows its member avatars in the top right.

**Direct Messages**

Under **Direct messages**, click the **+** to start a private one-to-one conversation with a colleague.

**Messages, Reactions and Threads**

Type in the composer at the bottom and press **Enter** to send. You can attach images, add emoji, **@mention** a colleague to get their attention, and react to any message with an emoji. Replying to a message starts a **thread**, keeping side-discussions tidy — the parent message shows a reply count.

**Finding Things**

The **Search messages** box at the top searches across your channels and direct messages. Pinned messages (the pin icon in the channel header) keep important notices one click away.

**TIP:** Good team-chat habits: keep client-specific coordination in the client’s Engage conversation (as an internal **Note**), and use Chat for everything else — rotas, deliveries, day-to-day coordination.
