Overview of Add-ons
Add-ons let you attach customizable option groups to a service, so clients or staff can make selections when booking or selling - with each option able to adjust the service's price, duration, and resource requirements.
Instead of creating a separate service for every variation, you build the add-ons once on top of an existing service. This keeps your service list clean, prompts staff and clients with the right options at the right moment, and applies pricing and duration changes automatically.
Before you start:
Add-ons are a service setting, so the service you want to build add-ons on must already exist. To learn how to set up a service, read this article.
How to Create an Add-on
Step 1: Navigate to the Add-ons tab
Start by logging into your Pabau account. In the left sidebar menu, click on Setup, then select Services under the Catalogue section.

Open the service you want to build add-ons for, then click on the "Add-ons" tab at the top of the service page.

Note: Add-ons are a service setting, so the service must already exist before you can build add-ons on it. To learn how to set up a service, read this article.
Step 2: Create an option group
Click on the "Create option group" button. A modal opens with two ways to build a group:

Start blank - build a new option group from scratch using the configuration form.

From your library - choose a ready-made template, including Pabau's built-in templates and any your clinic has saved previously. Templates are filterable by industry using the dropdown at the top, and each card shows the template name, how many options it contains, and how many services currently use it. Selecting a template loads it into the configuration form with everything pre-filled, ready to review and adjust.

Step 3: Name the group and set a client prompt
In the "Prompt for clients" field, enter the question or instruction clients will see during online booking, such as "Choose your add-ons."
In the "Group name" field, enter an internal name used to identify the group within the system.

Step 4: Add and configure options
Under "Available options", click on "+ Add option" to add each choice.

For every option, you can configure:
- Photo (optional) - an image shown next to the option in online booking
- Option name - the name displayed to clients and staff.
- Description (optional) - supporting text visible to clients in online booking.
Each option also has three toggles that control whether selecting it modifies the service:
- This option changes the service duration - set whether it increases or decreases the duration, and by how much.

- This option changes the service price - set whether it increases or decreases the price, and by how much.

- This option adds a resource requirement - select a resource that will be automatically booked for the full service duration whenever this option is chosen.

Click on "Add" to save the option to the group. Added options appear as a list with edit and delete icons on each row, and can be reordered by dragging.

Step 5: Set the group as required or optional
Choose whether a selection from this group is mandatory:
- Required - a selection must be made in online booking, on the calendar, and at the Point of Sale. The booking or sale cannot proceed without one.
- Optional - the service can be booked or sold without a selection, which suits upsells.

Step 6: Choose how many options can be selected
Set how many options a client or staff member can pick from the group:
- One at a time - a single option can be selected.
- Multiple - any number of options can be selected.
- Custom - set a minimum and maximum number of selections.

Step 7: Choose where the add-on can be used
Select the contexts where the option group appears. At least one must be selected:
- Calendar - staff can select from this group when booking an appointment through the calendar.
- Online Booking - visible to clients during self-service online booking.
- Point of Sale - available for staff when adding the service to a sale.

Step 8: Configure advanced options
Expand the "Advanced options" tab at the bottom of the form for additional toggles:
- Show option prices in online booking - displays price changes next to option names in the booking flow.
- Show duration changes in online booking - displays duration changes next to option names.
- Internal only - hides the group from clients across all client-facing surfaces, keeping it visible to staff only.
- Show icon on calendar when selected - displays an icon on the calendar appointment block whenever an option from this group is selected.

TIP: Use Internal only for groups you want staff to see but clients to never encounter in online booking - for example, an internal upsell prompt or a staff-only note attached to the service.
Step 9: Save the group
As you build, the live preview panel on the right updates in real time, showing how the group will appear in both the "Online Booking" and "Point of Sale" contexts, switchable via the tabs at the top of the panel. When you're ready, click on "Save" to add the group to the service.

To reuse a group you built from scratch on other services, click on "Save as template" at the bottom of the form. This saves the group - including its name, prompt, options, and settings - to your library, making it available to any service in the clinic.

Note: Add-ons built from a template stay independent per service. Editing or removing options within a service does not affect the original template or any other service already using it.
How to Edit an Add-on
You can update an option group at any time from the service it belongs to.
Step 1: Open the option group
Navigate to Setup > Services, open the relevant service, and click on the "Add-ons" tab. The service's existing option groups are listed here. Click on the group you want to edit to reopen the configuration form.

Step 2: Edit the options
Within the group, click on the pencil icon on an option's row to edit it, or the trash icon to delete it.

To add a new option, click on "+ New Option Group" as you would when first building the group.

Step 3: Update the group settings
You can also update the group's prompt, name, required or optional setting, selection limits, contexts, and advanced options. When you're done, click on "Save" to apply your changes.

How to Reuse an Add-on Template
Saving a group as a template lets you apply the same configuration across multiple services without rebuilding it each time.
Save a group as a template
When creating an option group from scratch, click on "Save as template" at the bottom of the form. This saves the group - including its name, prompt, options, and settings - to your library, making it available to any service in the clinic.

Apply a template to another service
On another service, open the "Add-ons" tab, click on "Create option group", and select your saved template from the "From your library" section. The template loads into the configuration form, where you can review and adjust the options and settings before saving them to the service.

How to Use Add-ons on the Calendar
Step 1: Create a new appointment
Log into your Pabau account and open the Calendar from the left sidebar menu. Click on an empty time slot to start a new appointment, then select the client and the service you want to book.

Step 2: Open the customization modal
When you add a service that has add-ons enabled for the calendar, the "Customise the [Service]" modal appears automatically. The modal is titled after the service and displays the client's name and avatar, along with a count of how many option groups are attached to the service.

Step 3: Make your selections
Each option group is displayed as its own section. The group prompt appears on the left, and the status and selection limit appear on the right:
Required - A selection must be made before you can continue.
Optional - shows only the selection limit in grey (e.g. "Choose any number"). These groups can be skipped.
Each option tile displays the option name, its price adjustment, and, where configured, a description and duration change. Click on the "+" button to select an option. A selected option is highlighted with a blue border and checkmark. In a "choose one" group, selecting an option greys out the remaining tiles.

Step 4: Review and continue
The "Continue" button becomes active once all required groups have a valid selection. Click on "Continue" to confirm your choices and apply them to the appointment.
Step 5: Book the appointment
Your selections are applied to the appointment automatically:
Price - the service price increases by the amount defined on the selected options, and the appointment total updates accordingly.
Duration - if an option is set to increase or decrease the service duration, the appointment slot on the calendar is adjusted to reflect the new total.
Deposit - if a percentage-based deposit is configured for the service, it is recalculated against the new price, so the deposit due updates to reflect the add-on.
Finish booking the appointment as usual. The add-ons are now tied directly to the appointment.

By following these steps, you can add relevant enhancements to an appointment at the point of booking, with pricing, duration, and resource requirements adjusting automatically on the calendar.
How to Use Add-ons at the Point of Sale
Step 1: Add a service to the cart
Log into your Pabau account and open the Point of Sale. Select the client, then add the service you want to sell to the cart, either manually or through appointment checkout.

Step 2: Open the customization modal
When a service with a required or optional add-on is added to the cart, the "Customise the [Service]" modal appears automatically. The modal is titled after the service and displays the client's name and avatar, along with a count of how many option groups are attached to the service.

Step 3: Make your selections
Each option group is displayed as its own section. The group prompt appears on the left, and the status and selection limit appear on the right:
Required - labeled in red alongside the selection limit (e.g. "Required • Choose at least 1"). A selection must be made before you can continue.
The footer updates in real time as you make selections. It shows the number of add-ons selected and the cumulative price being added to the service total. The "Continue" button becomes active once all required groups have a valid selection. Click on "Continue" to confirm your choices and add the service to the cart.

Step 5: Review the cart
Once added to the cart, the selected add-ons appear as labels under the relevant service. The add-ons increase the price of the service where configured, and any discounts and taxes are calculated based on the increased price.

By following these steps, you can offer relevant enhancements when selling a service at the Point of Sale, with pricing and duration applied automatically to the sale.
How to Edit a Booked Add-on
You can adjust the add-ons on a service already in the cart - changing the selections on an appointment booked with add-ons, or adding them to one booked without.
Step 1: Locate the service in the cart
Open the Point of Sale from the left sidebar menu, or initiate checkout from an existing appointment. The service appears in the cart on the right. A service booked with add-ons shows the selected add-on as a badge under it, while a service booked without add-ons shows an "Add-ons available" badge, indicating optional add-ons can still be applied.

Step 2: Open the service
Click on the service in the cart to open its details. The panel shows the price, quantity, employee, discount, and tax rate, along with an "Add-ons" section.

Step 3: Edit or add the add-ons
For a service booked with add-ons, click on the "Edit add-ons" button to open the "Customise the [Service]" modal with the current selection retained. For a service booked without add-ons, click on the "Add add-ons" button to open the modal with no selection yet made.

Step 4: Update your selections
In the modal, adjust the selections as needed. Click on the "+" button to select an option, or click a selected option to deselect it. The footer updates in real time to show the number of add-ons selected and the price added to the booking. Click on "Continue" to apply your changes, or "Skip" where the group is optional and no selection is needed.

Step 5: Save the service
Back in the service detail panel, click on "Save" to apply the updated add-ons to the cart. The service price, discounts, and taxes recalculate based on the new selection.
